Join Forces with Royal Life Saving in Water Safety Education
Since its inception thirty years ago, over 15 million Australian children have participated in the Swim and Survive program. Swim and Survive has made a significant contribution in many families lives by reducing the rate of drowning in 5-14 year olds by over 75%.
The NEW Swim and Survive Program
In 2009, a comprehensive review of Swim and Survive was conducted to make improvements both to the content and supporting resources for schools, swim schools and instructors.
The review included technical, industry and marketing focused workshops and forums conducted over a six month period. These activities led to the identification of many program improvements and structural changes that included the development of a new learning pathway from 6 months through to 14 years.
Wonder (6-36 months), Courage (3-5 years) and Active (5-14 years) have been chosen as the Swim and Survive program titles to reflect the hopes and aspirations of children as they embark on a lifetime of fun and safety in the water.
Each program is structured into skill strands that ensure a balanced, comprehensive instructional approach to a child’s aquatic education. Swim and Survive provides a pathway for ongoing learning and development through each of the key life stages and is designed to keep children engaged, actively learning and, most importantly, having fun.
