AUSTRALIAN POOL LIFESAVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

ADELAIDE, SA - THURSDAY 12 - SATURDAY 14 JANUARY

The Australian Pool Life Saving Championships 2012 will commence on Thursday 12 January at the South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre at Oaklands Park in Adelaide and concludes on Saturday 14 January with the Presentation Function to be held at the Morphettville Racecourse.

This will be the second time a major Australian Pool Life Saving event has been conducted at this state of the art swimming centre with the first also being held by RLSSA in October 2011 at the 13th Australian Masters Games.

The SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre is also the venue of the upcoming World Life Saving Championships: Rescue 2012 in November and will provide great experience for Australian athletes leading into those Championships.

Leading the charge in the pool will be the Australian Team Members from the successful Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships campaign in South Africa 2011 including Tim Schofield, Andrew Bowden, Blake McCrindle, Sam Bell, Mitch Parkes, Sissy Konakoff, Jane Cooper, Alicia Kirk, Pam Hendry and Alisha Ellwood. NSW are the current APLSC Interstate Overall Champions and they are expecting stiff competition from both Victoria and Queensland for overall honours.

Following the completion of the APLSC 2012, three Australian Representative Teams will be selected to participate in a High Performance Camp incorporating the Australian Pool Life Saving Short Course Championships in

Alice Springs this coming winter. The three teams include the U16 Junior Barras, U19 Silver Barras and current Commonwealth Lifesaving Champions, the Aussie Barras. The High Performance Camp and Short Course APLSC will provide outstanding training and skill development opportunities for athletes leading into the World Chamionships later in the year
